If, recently, you’ve been getting “crank calls” (not the ones from politicians . . . the other kind . . . you know, the “heavy breathers”!), or let’s say you found a cell phone number on your caller i.d. that you just don’t recognize . . . then you probably want to join one of America’s newest breed of people finders! So, let’s just see if we can just get you in the mood to trace someone’s identity from their cell phone number!
First of all, as long as you think you have the area code and the seven digit number, you should be able to locate the owner of any telephone . . . if you know where to look. If you don’t have, or don’t know how to get their number in the first place, you might want to watch this related video — it shows you 5 other things you probably never knew you could do with any cell phone! After the video, we’ll pick up where we left off at, with tracing someone’s identity from their cell phone number.
Finding The Telephone Number
Nice video, huh? Anyway, back to us . . . and, we were tracing, tracing, tracing someone’s identity from their cell phone number.
OK, your very first stop should be a “reverse lookup phone” service. Plenty of these companies are on the world wide web. If you’ll look to the upper right-hand corner of this page, you’ll find one that I prefer, and it works perfectly well for this purpose.
At the site, you’ll enter the entire phone number, including the area code, and hit “Search.” If the number connects to a published land line, you may get the info you want, including the legal name of the owner and her/ his current address. Even if the number is unpublished, you can still trace it through Intelius.com.
If you’re fortunate, your search can stop right there. in most cases, you’ll need to look at this from a slightly different way.
90% of those who use the above services will find who they’re looking for right away, but if, for whatever reason you run into a snafu is that the number returns to a cell phone (could happen).
Because there is no central database of cell phone numbers that’s free of charge, what are (falsely) advertised as absolutely free reverse phone lookup services cannot return information on those numbers. You also won’t be able to get data on landline numbers that are either unlisted or non-published. I mention that only because Intelius has probably the largest database (more than 2 billion entries) and is able to find upwards of 90% of non-published phone numbers. So, don’t bother trying multiple reverse+phone+lookup" rel="tag">reverse phone lookup directories in order to find the owner of a phone number, either. Most use the same databases, so if you don’t score results at one then you won’t fare any better at another site.
Finding the Phone’s Owner
Instead, you may have to use a paid site. For a reasonable fee, you can access more cell trace search options to get the information you need to find someone’s number. Some reverse phone databases will provide accurate, up-to-date information using both land line and cell phone searches.

Other exclusive data bases include more coverage of the entire United States with superior results than you might find in most other websites. They also provide free search assistance and access to their expanded people search databases. So, chances are actually very good that, one way or another, you can find the people you’re looking for, using these methods. Happy Hunting!
