Unfortunately, for those of us attempting to access information about who the number is on our bills. Most cell phone companies issue phone numbers by default as “unlisted.” Then, it’s a whole different ballgame.

Break out that credit card! But… wait a minute! Do not jump on the first website you find. Research them a bit. Some sites charge a small fortune. Their fees can go up to $69.95 or more. These sites also claim to have unlimited services. Check the small print. Also, check reviews on each company. Just because it sounds good, doesn’t mean it is. Some companies do not have accurate information. You could type in the phone number, thinking “This is way too easy!” And… sometimes you won’t be getting what you paid for.

Like any other money venture… be careful. Just like when you dial, and just like when you are questioning phone numbers on your phone bill… you want to know who is getting your money. Putting out that amount of money does not guarantee you are going to find the information that you are looking for, however… it still might not give out any more information than checking on the free sites. It really depends on the company and the company’s ability to access records. So, you still might be out… without the information you were planning on receiving!

But remember, most “kids” don’t have their own phone numbers and often use other phones that belong to “friends” as well. You may have to do a little more digging and actually talk to your teen.

I’m not sure about anybody else, but my favorite singer/ entertainer is, little Miss. Hannah Montana, otherwise known as Miley Cyrus! First of all, as long as you think you have the area code and the 7 digit phone number, you should be able to locate the owner of any telephone . . . if you know where to look. If you don’t have, or don’t know how to get their number in the first place, you might want to watch this related video — it shows you 5 other things you probably never knew you could do with any cell phone! Searching For The Telephone Number

OK, your very first stop should be a “reverse lookup phone” service. Plenty of these companies are on the Internet. If you’ll look to the upper right-hand corner of this page, you’ll find one that I prefer, and it works perfectly well for this purpose.

At the site, you’ll enter the entire phone or cell number, including the area code, and hit “Search.” If the number connects to a published land line, you might get the info you want, including the legal name of the owner and her/ his current address. Even if the number is unlisted, you can still trace it through Intelius.com.

If you’re fortunate, your search could stop at that point. You may, however, need to look at this another way.

90% of those who use the above services will find who they’re looking for right away, but if, for whatever reason you run into something “unexpected” is that the number returns to a cell phone (could happen).

Because there is no central database of cell phone numbers that’s free of charge, what are (falsely) advertised as absolutely free reverse phone lookup services cannot return information on those numbers. In addition, you might not be able to get data on landline numbers that are either unlisted or non-published. I mention that only because Intelius has probably the largest database (more than 2 billion entries) and is able to find upwards of 90% of non-listed phone numbers. So, don’t bother trying multiple reverse+phone+lookup" rel="tag">reverse phone lookup directories in order to find the owner of a phone number, either. Most use the same databases, so if you don’t score results at one then you won’t fare any better at another site.

Finding the Phone’s Owner

Instead, you may have to use a paid site. For a reasonable fee, you can access more cell trace search options to get the information you need to find someone’s number. Some reverse phone databases will provide accurate, up-to-date information using both land line and cell phone searches.
