Marco Bellino, an award-winning freelance Symbian C++ Developer from the Turin Area of Italy provides Guardian, a new antitheft software system for Symbian Series 60 devices. Bellino’s software is not only of the highest quality. It is FREE of charge and comes highly recommended for those interested in protecting their cell phone/ smartphone investments.

Every time you switch on your mobile telephone, Guardian proceeds with authentication of the inserted sim card; if authentication fails, Guardian send a notification sms message to a previously set telephone number. In addition, the system features remote control functions, i.e. deleting your photographs/ phone book/ text messages/ video/ audio data, in case of loss or theft of your mobile phone.

All the SMS sent/ received by Guardian will not notified in any way to the user — there are no icons, no lights, no sounds, no vibrations, nothing visibile in inbox/sent/outbox messages folder, and of course, no traces left in logs.

Here are the main features of Guardian, the only existing application of its kind today:

- SMS Notification -

Guardian automatically sends an SMS notification about the change of the sim card containing additional information (new owner’s phone number, GSM cell ID of the terminal to which the telephone is connected, country ID and current network). Such SMS messages are sent without notifying the new user (e.g., the thief).

- AutoStart -

Guardian autoruns every time you turn on your mobile phone; to be fully operative, users simply need to install it and set it up.

- AutoHiding -

When an unauthorized sim card is inserted (or in case the mobile phone is turned on without any sim card inserted), the program will switch to invisible mode (and therefore will not be accessible anymore). The new user will not be aware of the presence of an antitheft system. When an authorized SIM card is inserted, Guardian will return to visible mode.

- Multilanguage -

Guardian includes multilanguage features; Just download the correct version for your language.

- Uninstall Protection -

This feature protects the system from unauthorized uninstallation. The program is not visible among the installed programs; to be uninstalled, a specific procedure is required, which may be accessed from the program only.

- Hard Reset Protection -

Modern mobile devices are equipped with a procedure (hard-reset) which allows to restore default settings (removing every installed software). Similar antitheft software programs may be blocked by using this procedure. Guardian features an advanced shadow copy system; in 90% of cases the program is not deleted after a hard-reset.

- Low Overhead -

During the day-to-day usage of the phone with an authorized SIM, Guardian will not use any memory resource, and it will not even run in the backround. The program will start every time the phone is turned on and if the SIM is authorized it will simply turn off without wasting any resource.

(*) Remote Control Plugins

Once a SIM card change has been notified, users may send SMS commands to Guardian.
- Recover your SMS and your Phonebook’s contacts from your stolen mobile.
- Gain informations about the thief, monitoring his activities like sent and received SMS, incoming and outgoing calls, phonebooks contacts added.
- Track the movements of your mobile, using the GSM cell-id localization.
- Protect your Privacy deleting contents from your stolen mobile (SMS, contacts, images, videos, audios)
- Lock your Phone or your SIM to avoid anyone using it.
- Guardian is all this and much more…

(*) SIM White List

A maximum of 10 authorized sim cards can be registered.

(*) MultiSim system and Plugin support will be activated only for those users who will contribute to the growth of the project with a donation. Once your donation has been received, you will receive the instructions to receive a Donation Code. The code is univocally related to your mobile telephone and is compatible with all current and future Guardian’s updates.

- More Information -
The previous version does not need to be uninstalled. The installation of this version guarantees a correct update of Guardian system. At the end of the installation, wait a few seconds before launching the program; otherwise, an error message “File impossible to delete” will appear.

BTY: Guaridan 3rd Edition development has been completed and soon will start the distribution. Guardian is compatible with all Series60 3rd Edition devices (3250, 5500, 5700, 6110, 6120, 6121, 6290, E50, E51, E60, E61, E62, E65, E70, E90, N71, N73, N75, N76, N80, N81, N82, N91, N92, N93, N95).

Wall Street Journal reporter Lee Gomes recently wrote an article about reading an e-book on his Blackberry and, unlike several other reviews of the e-book experience, his was actually quite favorable (you can read it here).

A heated debate has raged for years about whether or not the printed page is a thing of the past, from newspapers to magazines to books. However, to paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of these deaths have been greatly exaggerated – or are, at the very least, premature.

” . . . E-book readers for our computers have been around for years, but convenience, eye-strain and a myriad of other factors have hindered their broad adoption . . .”

- Steve Maclin

Two recent developments, however, have pushed on-screen reading back to the forefront and signal an interesting opportunity for e-book readers.

First, there’s Apple’s introduction of the iphone, which got the masses thinking about what’s possible, including reading, on an easily portable device.

Perhaps more important has been the introduction of other new devices such as the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader, and they’re really turning heads!

Both are small and light, both use new technology that makes each device read more like paper than a screen, and the Kindle allows fast downloads wherever cell service is available. Gomes even mentioned in his WSJ article that it was much better ergonomically to read something on his BlackBerry screen than it was to hold a book.

The Kindle is currently the most popular e-book reader option. While it currently works exclusively with content delivered via Amazon, it’s helping to rapidly expand e-book readership, and like a rising tide floats all boats, that’s good for all of us.

smartphones, which use the Kindle, are equipped with complete operating systems that determine what kinds of functions and applications are available for that device. They provide a convenient way to carry several hand-held digital devices in one body. They allow you to easily sync e-mail accounts so you can get e-mail messages as they arrive on your phone, but they also allow you to view e-mail attachments and read e-books on the web.

Clearly, this is all good news for e-book readers/ publishers and smartphone owners. As more and more consumers become acclimated to reading a variety of materials on a screen rather than on a printed page, and as PDAs and other smartphone devices make it more and more convenient, the market for digitally delivered books, magazines, and newsletters across multiple platforms will only continue to grow.

Suffice it to say, “smartphones are so smart” as evidenced by the fact that these feature-packed mobile phones are becoming so pervasive, so overwhelmingly useful, that they could very easily become the default physical interface for ubiquitous computing applications, providing the foundation for a new, interaction paradigm. Try saying that three times real fast!

Nokia’s smartphones pack a powerful computer into a tight little package.

Matter of fact, I’d go so far as to argue that Nokia smartphones are far better as compared to every other smartphone manufacturer on the market today. The Symbian operating system (OS) on Nokia phones is time tested and seems to have lived up to its users’ expectations thus far. Their smartphones look better on paper, and actually outsell (about 100 times more than) the iphone!

Nokia’s E Series phones are an absolute triumph in terms of their features, especially for those who use their phones to actually do work.

Now, unlike your desktop or laptop, these small computers can be connected to the Internet all the time, and can interact with the world around it through their camera, voice recognition, and traditional phone keypads.

OK, so you’re not going to get free Nokia ringtones — but their smartphones combine these aforementioned features with impressive storage options and a host of networking protocols that make this smallest computer the only thing a road warrior (like myself) truly needs.

If you’re still cracking open your laptop or pining for your desktop while you’re on the road, you haven’t begun to unlock your Nokia’s full potential. Even thought the Nokia smartphone is not your typical “delayed flight to Cleveland,” the recently published Nokia Smartphone Hacks is dedicated to tricking out your Nokia smartphone and finding all the capabilities lurking underneath its surface.

Really cool book, and in it, you’ll learn how to:

- Unlock your phone so that you can use it with any carrier
- Avoid and recover from malicious mobile software
- Watch DVD movies on the phone
- Use the phone as a remote control
- Use the phone as a data modem for your notebook
- Check your email and browse the web
- Post to your weblog from your phone
- Record phone conversations
- Choose mobile service plans, and/ or
- Transfer files between the phone and your computer

Whether you want to use your smartphone as your lifeline while you’re on the road, or you’re just looking for a way to make the most of the time you spend waiting in lines, you’ll find all the user-friendly tips, tools, and tricks you need to become massively productive with your Nokia smartphone.

With Nokia Smartphone Hacks, you’ll unleash the full power of that smartphone/ PDA/ computer sitting in your pocket, purse, or backpack.

I just purchased one of those all-in-one devices (guess you call it a “smartphone“) that combine the features of a PDA and cellular telephone.

It’s a nifty little gadget that’s sure to help me organize my life and be more productive every day. Although these devices have been around for a while now, they’re still a bit on the expensive side. I spent several hundred dollars on my new mobile device, and I’m constantly worried about scratching, dropping, or otherwise damaging it. Obviously what I need to do here is start shopping for cell phone skins in order to ease my anxiety a bit.

Actually, I browsed through some cell phone skins right at the store where I bought my device in the first place. But since my cell phone is one of the newest ones out there, the store didn’t have a skin that would fit it. I even continued to shop for cell phone skins later that day in different stores inside the mall I was at, but with similar results. My device was just too new.

I checked back at those same stores about a week later, but still couldn’t find the right cell phone skins. One of the sales clerks I talked to could tell I was frustrated, so he suggested that I shop for cell phone skins online. He said that these days it’s not unusual for web-based stores to get their hands on new products and start selling them before traditional stores. I thought that sounded pretty reasonable, so I got a few website addresses from the guy and went home to check them out.

I was surprised to see that the store clerk was absolutely correct. The websites he pointed me to did indeed have a wide selection of brand new cell phone skins to choose from. These cell phone skins were for all the latest devices, and I was able to find my model listed on the site. After doing some quick price comparisons and finding the best deal on cell phone skins, I made my purchase on the spot.

Now that my new cellular device is protected by one of the very best cell phone skins available, I can use it without having to worry about incidental damage or even ordinary wear and tear. I can’t believe I went as long as I did without using a skin; that just seems like a sure way to ruin an expensive gadget.

At any rate, I did learn a valuable lesson here. The next time I need a product or accessory that is brand new to the market, I’ll shop for it online instead of wasting my efforts at local stores!

A <a href="http://www.technorati.com/tag/<a+href='http://www.cell-phone-usa.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-affiliate-pro.php?id=26'+target="_blank">smartphone" rel="tag">smartphone is an electronic handheld device representing a class of handsets with a mobile operating system such as Symbian, Microsoft OS, RIM or Palm. You might think of a smartphone as a mobile phone, one that has built-in features and functionalities in its handset that makes it a mobile information center and entertainment device for the user.

You might also think of a smartphone as a hybrid device, one that has all the features of a mobile phone and most of the features of a personal digital assistant (PDA) such as calendar, e-mail, Web browsing and office applications. Smartphones are one of the fastest growing segments in the consumer devices market.

Typically, smartphones can take care of your communication, handheld computing, and multimedia needs. Unlike traditional cellphones, a smartphone offers a personal information manager (PIM), functionality (e.g., contacts, calendars, and tasks) and allows professionals to install and run assorted computer applications that can edit documents, search the Internet, and retrieve information from enterprise servers.

Smartphones are generally designed for one-handed operation, with keypad access to both voice or data features. They are often optimized for voice and text communication, wireless access to MicroSoft Outlook information and encrypted browsing of corporate and Internet information and services. As well, smartphones generally have longer battery lives and cannot be customised quite as much.

” . . . But, if you primarily use only the calendar and contact features of a PDA anyway, something like the Samsung SGH-i600 might be perfect for you…”

Motorola redefined the smartphone category by providing a clip-on personal organizer for its existing StarTAC phones.

Smartphones are equipped with complete operating systems that determine what kinds of functions and applications are available for that device. They provide a convenient way to carry several hand-held digital devices in one body. They allow you to easily sync e-mail accounts so you can get e-mail messages as they arrive on your phone, but they also allow you to view e-mail attachments and click on links in e-mail to the web.

Smartphone2002 and Smartphone2003, made by Microsoft, have great capability, performance and conveniences. But they are not exactly what you would call “license-free.”

Still, from where we stand today, smartphones are slated to become the most prominent personal computers on the planet, ultimately able to do everything that desktop computers currently do. However, there are times when people need a large screen and full-size keyboard.

Smartphones have become increasingly popular because they provide “all-in-one” convenience by integrating traditional mobile phones with handheld computing devices. However, the flexibility of running third-party softwares also leaves the smartphones open to malicious viruses. That’s a little beyond the intended scope of this article, so we’ll only mention this in passing.

Suffice it to say, “smartphones are so smart” because of all we’ve just discussed, and as evidenced by the fact that they are fast becoming the new PDA phones . . . and, because these feature-packed mobile phones are pervasive, they could very easily become the default physical interface for ubiquitous computing applications, providing the foundation for a new, interaction paradigm.
